The purpose of the article is to identify the employment features of the tourism industry in the European Union. It has been proven that in recent years, tourism has been one of the leading sectors of the global economy, demonstrating steady growth. The tourism sector is characterised by a diversity of activities and, accordingly, requires the involvement of specialists in various fields, which creates employment opportunities for different categories of the population. Since tourism is a dynamically developing sector and Europe is one of the leading destinations for international tourism, the analysis of employment issues in the tourism sector is of particular relevance. To achieve the research objective, based on European Union data, the article analyses: employment trends by type of economic activity; distribution of employed persons by type of economic activity and full-time/part-time employment; distribution of employed persons by type of economic activity and age group; the distribution of employed persons by type of economic activity and level of education; the distribution of employees by type of economic activity and nature of employment; the distribution of employed persons by type of economic activity and length of service; seasonal fluctuations in employment in certain sectors of tourism, depending on full-time/part-time employment. The study also used a weighted SWOT analysis to identify external and internal factors affecting employment, assess their significance and rank them according to the assessment obtained. The SWOT analysis identified the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats associated with employment in the tourism sector of the European Union. It has been substantiated that the proposed approach can be applied in the development of a labour market management strategy in the tourism industry, and the positive experience of employment in the tourism industry in the countries of the European Union can be taken into account in the development of a post-war tourism development strategy in Ukraine.
